Physical size of Smartphones in general

I think it boils down to what type of device the user see the smartphone to be. It's either a Phone with advanced connectivity and media options or a PDA/Small Tablet with phone functionality added. Two completely different devices.
I see it as a phone with added functionality.

If I needed or wanted a small tablet I would buy an iPad Mini or similar device.

It's only available for Verizon. Although owning a Microsoft Kin is more a novelty item than an actual phone, lol.

The 920 at 4.7" is big enough for me. I hope WP continues to offer phones in the 4.3" to 4.7" range... any bigger gets hard to carry.

My test for whether a cell phone is too big or not is whether I can wrap my hand around it and have my middle finger and thumb touch. If they can't, then it's too big. This is why I will never get the 1520. It's a nice looking phone, but it didn't pass the size test.

That's an interesting test. What made you choose to use that as a test? I've never had the need to touch my middle finder and thumb together when using my phone.

I just tried this and I have to agree this is a great test. Anything bigger *requires* two hands to operate the screen (unless you change your grip on the phone, which is a drop hazard and just plain annoying), and I just don't think I should need two hands to do various simple tasks that have always been one handed since the dawn of cell phones.
