Playlist not recognised

Is there any kind of magic you need to see a playlist in WP8?

I have it in my playlist folder on my SD card and it doesn't show up.
All the tracks are there, synced from Media Monkey.
I've done it before but this time nothing. The only difference is my memory card was in a card reader not on the USB cable so the tracks in the .m3u file say E:\...

Hang on a sec, did you say .m3u?, not recognized by windows phones.
I filter my 17k songs and only upload the ones that have a 5 star rating.
I can use the windows desktop software to create playlists that I can see on my phone.

Ah ok.

I've been searching for recognised formats but found none.
Dunno why MM did it as m3u, it clearly didn't before.

What formats does WP8 recognise?
