Hey guys,

I just bought a Surface Pro 3, but since I'm in Iran, there's no Microsoft warranty. And seller only provides 48-hour return. :straight:
So, I want to check everything to make sure my device is not faulty.
What are some common issues with this hardware?

Thanks ;)

I use a Surface Pro 2 in place of my work laptop and I don't have any problems with it. I have a docking station on my desk at work. I pop our the surface and take it home at night and program on it, use it as my TV and all around mobile PC. I don't know if the Pro 3 have any new issues, but the Pro 2 is a solid machine. I am jealous of your thinner profile on the 3, I have to admit. Let us know how you like it!

Make sure the key cover keyboard is working. That will check the connector on the bottom. Test a USB device to be sure the USB port is working. Check the Video port if you can get an adapter. Make sure the power connector is good and charging.

You might want to find a hardware diagnostic to be sure the screen doesn't have excessive missing or stuck pixels. Force the cooling fan to come on by streaming a video. Check the power and volume control buttons. Check the Windows button and see if the haptic feedback is working on the Windows button. Finally, check the battery doesn't run down too quickly. That is about all the hardware.

Thanks for detailed information :)
Unfortunately, I can't check Video Output and Keyboard connector now; Because I don't have a Mini-DisplayPort adapter, and I didn't buy type cover (The color I want is cyan, but seller had only black. I'll try finding keyboard later, but 2 days will finish before that)
And for the rest, I'll try what you said; and also I'll try running a few games on my Surface to make sure the cooling system is working correctly.

Thank you!

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 seems to be able to run at 720p with around 40fps on my device. Can anyone confirm this?

congratulation on your Surface

I have the same issue when I buy my devices (maybe even worse) because I buy them from US stores and ship them to Saudi Arabia via mail forwarding company (so I don't even have 48 hours warranty) but until now I have been lucky and all the devices I bought work great (with the exception of Nike FuelBand)

and to answer your question , check out those bugs and defected threads and make sure your device don't have these issues

and good luck :-)

Plug in a set of headphones and make sure you don't have any audio popping (which typically happens after closing an audio app, or switching from one audio app to another). I experienced that on two SP3s that I swapped out.

Also check along the left-hand side of the screen to see if you have a yellow hazy line about a quarter of an inch thick running from top to bottom. If you have it, it'll be subtle but once you see it you won't be able to un-see it. It's most apparent on white backgrounds.

Seems that my device doesn't have any problems. (I can't test keyboard an displayport now...)

But, some thing got me really excited. Official twitter account responded one of my tweets in my native language, Persian! :D

You can see pictures of their responses here.
