Possible to install 8.1 on Surface Book?

Does anyone know if it is possible (or even supported) to run Windows 8.1 on the SB? We're looking at these for my company, but we're not even close to being able to support Windows 10.

I'm going to say "probably not" but hard to say.

The biggest issue I could see is with the DTX app (the one that lets you detach the screen, and on models with a GPU detects which GPU is in use before doing so).

You should be able to but as @devhux said, the screen detach may not work

The problem is you would have to pay for 2 licenses for each machine. A Windows 8.1 license allows a free upgrade to Windows 10. I'm not sure if they have downgrade licenses for the Surface Book.

Someone in the Surface Pro forums mentioned the pen, power button, and some other things didn't work either as there weren't any drivers.
