Post Auto Saves

When you are entering a post for a new thread where are the 'auto saves' that occur?

After entering a long post I it would not submit a new thread and my new thread was gone. It was to late to 'restore auto saved content'

If I'm composing a long post, I typically do so on my desktop. I'll create the post in Word and save it. Then I'll use the editing tools in the forums to insert my .docx file. Formatting is usually required at that point, but I don't lose all my content.
