Don't think so. All Windows Phone devices are like that. It must be the OS.

Yes, I read that somewhere. Probably in one of the upcoming updates.

They changed that for the 8X within it's latest firmware update. I believe manufacturers can enable this since Update 3. Hopefully this will get common functionality, as I will switch from my 8X to a Lumia as soon as possible.
