Price and availability?

$1500+. Think about how much R&D went into this. This is a whole new product category. If Apple can make smartphones for $1000, this will certainly be significantly more. Plus Google Glass was $1500.

I asked Cortana, she said $4000 for the HaloLens Pro and $800 for the standard HaloLens consumer version due in 2017

I'm guessing there will be flavors, ranging from $800 to $2000+. Depending on usage. A casual game and media consumer doesn't need as much power as an industrial designer or vfx artist or even a high end gamer.

Oh, and windows 10 timeline doesn't necessarily mean release timeline. It could technically mean, within the life of the product... So within the next 10 years.

I think there will be a consumer version and a professional version with the consumer version coming in at between $500 - $1000.

I'm of the opinion that it'll be out much sooner then that. As soon as Xmas '15 but no later then Xmas '16.

True, but I highly doubt they would announce something and release a year latter. I bet it is 2015 holidays.

I have a feeling that MS will heavily subsidise this to push early adoption. It is clear from the demo video that it will be pushed as professional and consumer accessory, so it has to be affordable. And MS will also want to pre-empt any attempt at catching up by Google, Oculus, or Apple. So, depending on how big the vision for HoloLens is and how confident MS feels about its first generation hardware & software I'd say somewhere between €299-€699.
