hi guys,

new user and first post. I was so happy with Windows 8 on my laptop that I made the jump from an iPhone to WP8 (lumia 928) and i'm happy I did.

anywho, I'm not sure if this is the right place, I tried searching the forums and it seems i'm the only one with this issue. I took video using my phone, but when saving it to my PC I could not play the video. I got a 'this file type is not supported' error. One would think that compatibility would be a non issue between essentially the same OS??

Thanks in advance.

btw, it looks like it saved as a .mp4 file. Downloaded quicktime which plays those, still no fix.

Re: problem with videos shot using WP8

I personally have never had any issue like that. Hopefully someone here will have had the same experience and will give you a fix. One thing I always say though is that for video, you really can't go wrong with vlc. Not the best when it comes to things like playlists, but it plays just about every audio and video file type out there.

so I've had minor success; after downloading VLC I was able to get the videos to play using VLC to open them. Seems like this is more of an issue with the 'Videos' app in windows 8 (which is Xbox video) than it is a compatibility thing. Any ideas on how to use the app to play videos? I have an xbox account and the videos app is updated. this strikes me as being overly complicated for devices that are supposed to be compatible with eachother.

as a side note, Microsoft's tech support is awful. i know this isn't a complaint forum, but I wouldn't recommend it to anybody. forums have been much more helpful. thanks everybody.
