rite now i hve used it only with pc software project my screen and it works perfectly! connect ur phone with pc via wire and start that app on pc and phone will ask u whether to allow projection or not!

If that doesn't work, unplug your device and delete al nokiadrivers from your system ( device manager ).
Then reboot your PC and plug your phone back in and let it reinstall the drivers.
That did the trick on my system.

Install project my screen app on your PC.
Remove your WP8 device driver from PC by control panel.
Now connect your WP8.1 with your PC now phone's driver might be installing wait for a minute.
after that open project my screen app now you'll see the popup on your phone, press ok.
