Hi,

How will the final our public release of wp 8.1 be distributed?

Can you choose to download it yourself upon its release or is it like android where youre at the mercy of carriers and manufacturers?

Carriers can hold it back. I don't live in the United States, so carriers have no influence on software, they load their applications on the SIM Card, and they're usually tools and not advertisement.

If carriers hold it back and you have the developers preview, will that be the same as the final release one that is distributed to the public?

It will be released via OTA

Yes, you can choose not to install it. Personally though, I would take the update. I've been running the DP version and I've been really happy with the upgrade.

It's starts today...

If that image is correct I have to wait for another month for my Lumia 1020 to get the official OTA update. Thats ok, its almost one of the first devices getting the update.

Now I see where the June 24 date keeps cropping up from.
Only, whoever started quoting that date hasn't read the picture correctly. That's Week 24, not June 24.
And as Week 24 has come and gone anyway, the whole thing can be dismissed for what it is - a rumour.

Wrong, look at the diagram again and you will see that none of the non 8.1 phones start on the week 24

It's a bit small to see on my screen.

Today is when the service life of 8.1 starts but that doesn't mean that it will start going to phones today. It will get to phones combined with firmware Cyan when your carrier sends it. Sim free phones will get both direct from Microsoft.

The above chart says July 7th till August 10th for the OTA release in the Benelux region.

Week 26 is this week...if the OTA date is the actual possible date, than that would be sometime the week after next (week of July 7) for updates to start.

But since it all depends on Nokia, I'm not sure.

I already have 8.1, but really want to see some of the features that were held back as they obviously depend on the phone, like the new start screen options.
