Samsung Ativ S - Windows Phone 8.1 Update - Developer Preview

My Ativ S just died on the weekend.

I updated the phone the day the software was released, and it worked nearly perfectly. The only problem was around the camera. Sometimes I it would crash, and I'd have to restart the phone to get it working again, but I thought that was a small price to pay for such an incredible update.

I LOVE the update. The only thing I didn't like was that Cortana wasn't available to me in Canada.

Sunday night, after a full day of taking pictures at my daughter's dance recital, it died. The screen went all fuzzy, and then the phone just shut down.

I haven't been able to get it started since.

I've tried holding down the power and windows and volume buttons, I've tried changing batteries. I don't know what else to do.

I loved the update so much I don't know if I can go back. Part of me would rather suffer through pulling out my old Galaxy S2 and suffer through Android until the update becomes official.

So many things I just became accustomed to. The new start screen, the notification centre, the new keyboard!!!! I don't know if I can go back.

HELP!

I have. Non-LTE Ativ S and updated with no issues. I haven't reset it, though, so I can't say if there would be any issues with that.

I also have a non LTE ATIV S and I've done a factory reset with no issues.

Hi guys, I don't know if this was posted before, but enabling vibration on the capacitive buttons seems to fix the camera and random reboots...

I don't like it but it's less annoying than having no camera...

Enabling capacitive buttons helps only temporary, since a restart is forced. No problem with reboots anyway.

Solution to get out of the reboot loop !
Install an other keyboard language -> search for updates and once you see the gears and have last restart you are out of the loop. !

My firmware revision number is: 2424.13.10.1
My Bootloader version is: 13.08.14.16
So both higher, it looks like you haven't the latest GDR3 Samsung firmware, and that might explain your reboot loop problem. Did you ever have an official GDR3 update or only the developer update?

After a hardreset I noticed, that I can't change my ringtone. Somehow it's set to the default one by Samsung. Does anybody else noticed this problem?
me too: it saves costume ones(individual contacts) but it keeps defaulting to the stock one

There are a few things to know before you update (Unless you already did).

1) if your phone has an issue, you drop it and it breaks or something else your carrier may not fix it because from what I heard it voids your warranty.

2) Since you're using the S I'm guessing you're with Sprint. If you use an Air Rave, your phone may not work properly after the update. From what I heard Sprint (and this may be true for other companies that have Femtocells too) they have the OS coded (or drivers made) for the Air Rave so if you update to 8.1 your phone might not connect to the Air Rave properly, you might get dropped calls, repeat texts, or not receive texts (among other possibilities).

So if you have an Ativ S or any Windows Phone (maybe even Android too, I'm not sure) call your provider and see if it voids your warranty and if you use a femtocell make sure that the update won't break your phone.
