Samsung Focus Update Error

So i bought this not too long ago. It's unlocked. Anyway im point out that it did not come with the original usb cord. Whenever i got this phone i obv wanted to download apps, but couldnt because it was all just black or said no results. I read it was because the phone was running on Windows 7, so i proceeded to update the phone. So i have a MAC and dowloaded the windows app and everything to update the phone. Its been 2 weeks of me trying to update the phone and nothing! All i get get is that the Update failed and it gives me NO ERROR CODE, it just failed. I just did factory reset and it was a waste because it did nothing. I also tried updating this from a PC and got the same results. WTF am i not doing?!

What app did you use on the PC to update your Focus?

i used zune and it stopped on step 6/9 which is the step when the phone restarts. I just realized it could be because maybe i havent enrolled with windows live yet, so im gonan try that and see if it works
