Scan SD card and fix errors

After every restart I get this message (Scan SD card and fix errors). Even after I click "yes" on the question "Do you want us to scan it and fix any problems we find", I still got the same message every time I restarted the phone. So I put the SD card in the pc: scanned it - no threats, formatted the card and put it back in the phone. No problems for a while, and then again the same problem appeared after every restart. Even when I click "No" to the question asked above, nothing's wrong with the card, and everything works just as fine. I put the card in another phone, and there were no problems.
Btw I have a Lumia 640, and a 16gb SD card.

the card might still be the problem, is it possible you can try a different card? especially from a different company?

I would try another card from another manufacturer. I've seen cards with well on one device but not another. It does not necessarily mean the card is bad. I've had a phone that gave me problems reading the SanDisk card I had, but a Kingston or Samsung card works just fine. But on my other devices, I had zero issues with the SanDisk card even after a couple of years of use.

Doesn't matter. I have the same problem with my Lumia 640. Now and then I run a chkdsk /r on the card.

such a definitive statement. how do you back it up?

numerous statements from the WC forums I guess. You've been getting the error messages - they're not there just for show. At work a motor keeps tripping every week or so - we can reset it and continue or take a look at see what the actual problem is -turns out the bearings were worn out and in another week they would have failed badly

from experience Sandisk is never the best option - it works but I don't trust it. Many of my friends and colleages have had devices failing like USB drives or cards after a few months use

I rather use transcend - the first card I bought still works after 6 years

I've have the same experience every time I soft reset, or even just power off and on, what I do is select yes fix errors and then it scans for about 10 minutes. Also while it's scanning if it falls asleep or you go off the main screen it won't fix the sd and I can't access my music, apps, etc. It's a real pain and it's not just the brand of sd cards because my whole family has 640 and they all do the same thing. Makes me miss my Lumia 1020 and that 32 gb internal.

So, I had this happen to me on my Lumia 950 XL using a SanDisk 200 GB MicroSD card for awhile. Ironically, I "fixed" it by moving Skype and Windows Central onto my phone and that was about a month ago. I haven't seen it once.

It could because of two reasons, one of them (I did it on the same day, so not sure which, or if both) were calling for something on the phone when booting up and that caused the error, or if it's because I have them both pinned to the Start screen and the boot process doesn't ping the MicroSD until after the phone is pinged.

Either way, try moving some apps from the MicroSD to your phone until it stops.

I just tried your recommendation and it did make noticeable difference. It still had to scan, but this time it was less then a minute compard to 10 before. Thanks!

we have two 640 and check sd card message had appeared on both. I noticed that 640 takes quite a time to shutdown. If I force shutdown (hold down power for over 10 sec, or remove the battery) then on startup it will complain about sd card.
So let it shutdown naturally be patient it might take 2 mins even more.
And get faster sd card, Class 10 (everything over 32GB) or better.

If SD errors happen constantly on WP8.1 - I would be worried.

If SD errors happen constantly on W10M but did not happen on WP8.1 - I don't know, something in W10M does not like some cards...
After I resqued - eh restored - my 640 back to 8.1, it reported and fixed SD error once. I might connect the dots in a way that fixing error works in both OS versions, but W10M keeps breaking filesystem (?) again and again.

W10M hates my SanDisk Ultra 32GB HC-I, but has no issues with my Samsung Evo 32GB HC-I card. This being across 3 different phones. "Errors" on the Sandisk and smooth sailing on the Samsung no matter which phone and no matter how many times I reset the SanDisk on phone or laptop by scanning for errors. And my laptop has zero issues with the SanDisk...

I never was a big fan of SD cards and I still am not. I'm forced to used one because of the low internal memory on the 640.

But I don't require A LOT of space. I don't install a lot of apps , nor do I have a lot of pics saved on my phone. I don't even have music saved on my phone.

Once I can find a decent phone to upgrade to with 32gb internal memory I will not need a memory card again. Heck. I can probably even make 16gb internal storage work...

sandisk has never had a good reputation here though people still buy them because they're 40% cheaper than other card companies. Personally I always recommend Transcend since they work for so long - my 6 year old card still works on my brothers phone (640)
