So I picked up the 640 from Walmart, wanted to compare it to my 640 XL as I'm not sure I can get used to the size of the XL for everyday use. Here's what I noticed...

Each phone displays websites differently. The layout on mobile sites like Youtube, CNET, Yahoo, etc look different (sometimes very) on both devices. Can't understand why. Also if I go to these sites at the same time on both phones, often times content is different too, why is this?

Screen quality is a mixed bag: Still pictures and text quality on the 640XL seem to look a little better, and the whites are whiter for sure. Video looks slightly better on the 640 if you really look close. Here's the thing, though. I was at yahoo on both phones and clicked on the same story from the main page. Underneath the main story are thumbnail links to other stories... on the 640 all the little thumbnail pictures look crystal clear... on the 640 XL they all look fuzzy, very poor quality. This is not the case on all sites, but some. Yet the 640 seems to display these thumbnail links clear on all sites.

Thoughts?

Both screens have the same resolution and the 640's screen is smaller so it is only natural that it would look a bit sharper especially for thumbnails. But the XL has a better camera so it gets the nod there. I choose the 640 because of its sharper screen (lets face it you spend all your time looking at the screen) so it should be one of the most important items in choosing a phone. Coming from a 820 the screen of the 640 seems pretty big, I am sure the 640XL would seem huge. Very happy with the 640, should help with market share. I have seen quite a few people with them lately where as before I almost never saw a WP.

I don't think you fully read my post. It only happens on some sites. On others the little thumbnails for the XL are as sharp and clear as they are on the 640. Plus, the naked eye at normal viewing distance would not detect fuzziness on a 5.7" 720p screen.
