I know this phone was introduced in 2012 , and i'm seeing some on ebay for around 130$ new . I want this to be an upgrade from my 520 . Is the lumia 920 still relevant in 2015 ? If not , what are some other suggestions for something else close to that price range ? ( I hate the 640 design :( )

I have a variant of the 920 (925) and I love mine. If you don't mind "older technology" and want a solid dependable daily driver, I say go for it. Be mindful that it more than likely will not receive an official update to Windows 10 mobile since it's a three year old phone.

Dude skip that and get a Lumia 640. The 920 was a solid device, but its 3yrs old by now. Get something a little more recent.

It's a fine device and it definitely has some plusses over the 640, but its not all good or bad. Battery life on the 640 over the 920 might be worth it.

Depends. My 920 (bought from Nokia in 2012) just died (power and camera buttons stopped working) so I thought I bought a new factory unlocked 920 off of Amazon but it was an unlocked AT&T phone with AT&T bloatware. It was not as responsive as my recently crapped 920 and did not operate the same so I returned it and just bought a 640 to hold me over until the MS Lumia Flagship. Moral of the story: If you can find one direct from Nokia, go for it.

I've had mine since 2012 and it's what I have to carry while I'm working I can get all day from 5am till midnight on my battery, but I most apps except weather apps, battery apps and a couple others disabled from running continuously in the background. But I've let my wife use it when her phone quit working and she used Facebook on it and with all the notifications and updates the battery life was half of my daily usage.

Since then I've got her and I 1520's off eBay, can't believe how long the battery last, but I can't carry it while I work, it would get broke the first hour climbing around on industrial equipment but the 920 has lasted since 2012.

I love my 920, its been a great phone and made me a fan of WP. At this point though if you can wait i'd hold off a couple of months to see what comes out with Win10 Mobile. I think the rumored 950 will finally be a worthy replacement for the 920.

I've had my 920 now for almost three years and it's been a great phone with ok battery life...but I wouldn't buy one now...get the 640 to hold you over till the 950 shows up.

920 has better camera and full Glance, 32gb, but its a brick, and only has a dual core. A 640 is probably a better buy at this point.

Yeah, as much as I love my 920, I just got my wife a 640 and am a little jealous of it. Sure, the 920 is a far better design, and I like PureView with OIS, and 32GB internal storage is great for map downloads, but otherwise, the 640 is a better phone, and it actually has a future. And it's $80 brand new. I bought my 920 a year ago for $145 on Ebay, but if I had to buy a new one today, it'd be the 640 (or wait a couple months if possible for the rest of the new devices).

I agree with the others, although the 920 was a solid phone, it is a bit aged now so skip the 920 and get something more recent.

on the other hand :) i had a MS sales assistant tell me to put down a 640 when he saw me physically comparing it to my 920. He told me not to bother with the 640, in comparison to the 920, but to rather wait for the new 950 range coming out.

Give it a wait. The 950 series are launching in October. Once that happens i expect a price drop in almost all older phones.

used to be proud user of 920 up until the release of 640 XL. As others suggested, I would personally recommend 640 XL over the 920 as it is more recent and has better look and feel. Nevertheless, if you are considering the price as well, 920 has been and still is a great choice, despite having normal (or small compared to the whole phablet era) it is a solid choice. Main issue would be its weight. So, hold it in person and try it for a bit. The weight was a bit of an issue whenever i was laying on the couch and holding it in the air or talking extensively on the phone without any handsfree.

The weight aids in taking pictures with the optical image stabiliser - Wikipedia.

Best phone I ever had. For my use, the weight and "brick" like design are huge pluses. It's built like a tank and can survive all manner of drops and impacts without flinching, and without a big ugly cover on it. The problem I'm having now is that ATT keeps sending me updates to WP8.1, which I absolutely do not want - I have to dismiss it several x per week. I allowed the update to my original 920, and it rendered the phone useless - I ended up buying an almost new one off ebay for $100. I don't know what the price will be on the upcoming 950, but I'll be interested. I just don't see paying $500+ for a phone - a very loseable, damageable piece of kit that lives in my pocket. In fact I can't see paying more than $125

Its got a very bad resale value. I tried to exchange it recently, but thought against it after seeing the price quoted.

I just bought mine a couple months ago, after breaking my 925's main board. I only bought that old phone because I hated how 640 series look and couldn't afford 830. I would love to have a 1520 or even 930.
The 920 is Nokia's most special Lumia ever made I think, it's got the killer design, amazing colors and hardware (for its time). I enjoy wireless charging that 925 supported only with an ugly cover.
920 doesn't have the camera hump but it's too heavy. Yes, you get used to it but it would be way better lighter.
Speaker on the bottom edge is awesome to listen to music out loud.
It's built solid as a rock.
Camera is great.
Proximity sensor responds too slowly. It's the only bad thing about the phone.
But yes, this phone is too old. Windows won't update 8.1 and probably won't (and maybe shouldn't) offer W10M.
