My surface gets a message 'plugged in, not charging' when I am plugged in using the supplied cable. Should I buy the dock for charging?

I think the question is, what percentage is the battery at when it says not charging?
And what is he device doing at that time?

I would not buy the dock unless I wanted or needed is functionality.

Does your Surface have all the available updates, my Surface 3 used to do this until the latest firmware update?

This. And even then I'd only buy it when it was on sale.

If you can get it cheap i would say it is worth it!(*) but i would not spend more than 80 dollars.
I bought two of them and the Surface 3 charges much faster, i would say in about 90-120 minutes with it
They had huge discounts on surface 3 accessories but it was some months ago.
(*) First dock costed me 75 euros refurbished on a website and the second one this summer brand new at 1 euro(if purchased with a surface accessory(pen, type cover,...)
