Side-Effect of Cortana Region/Language trick, cannot make store purchases

It seems as a result of changing my region and language to "United States" in 8.1 to enable Cortana, I can no longer make purchases on my device. I'm certain this wasn't the same in 8.0.

​Has anyone found a work-around, aside from having to reset your phone with a region switch just to make purchases?

Pretty sure this was the same in 8.0. No work around other than the one you have described... Hence the reason people are getting so upset about Cortana only being available in the U.S. If it was as easy as a region change, with no downsides,I imagine far less people would be complaining!
