They sounded very skeptical of Windows Mobile before the test had even begun tbh. But there's no denying that the 950 is a lot slower than the hardware is capable of.

It'll only get smoother from here as more fixes are added, but still, I think we all hoped for a little better at launch.

Keep in mind that most apps are made for 8.1 running in a backwards compatibility layer. The latest .29 update does improve on that a lot though. Not really an accurate test.
