Soft Rest Buttons?

From what I saw in forum here, by holding Power Button and Volume Down Button together, is to perform Soft Reset right? Does Soft Reset mean Restart? And usually I am using the old way to perform restart, which is by holding the Power Button ONLY. Are these 2 things the same? Or different?

A soft reset is simply a restart of the device. It only removes temp files from memory and you do not lose data.
