I have a lumia 830 phone upgraded to windows 10 mobile. When I bought this I presume I paid something for the right to use office software. Now that I will be changing to Android are my "rights" to use the software carried with me?

Windows mobile apps are free to use on anything under 10 inches. Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any software licenses that transfer between mobile platforms like that. But here, not necessarily.

Do you have an Office365 subscription that you sign in with on your phone? If so, as long as you have devices spare to install on (I believe Office365 allows for six devices?) then you can just sign in again with the same amount on your new phone.
