Some apps aren't being recognized and hence I don't get notifications.

I have a Lumia 640 XL LTE and two apps in particular aren't being recognized by Notifications & actions and so I don't get notifications for them which can be annoying. The apps are WhatsApp and Kik Messenger. When I'm in app (WhatsApp) and I receive a message the banner pops up but not anywhere else but I do get calls in and outside app. The live tile for WhatsApp updates as soon as I get the message and hence the lock screen too but that's it. For Kik I only know if there are new messages when I open the app.
I'd prefer if there was a solution that didn't involve my chat history getting wiped.

can you check both in whatsapp settings and general settings that notifications are enabled? Sound, banners etc.
