Hi
i currently have a 1020, was gonna replace it with a xperia z2. I was reading the sony beats the nokias camera on a few websites
well i tried the camera on the sony today and it does not come close, there isn't much difference between them shot for shot in daylight but when you try and crop the image, the sonys detail is terrible, and a bit blurry, the low light shots are no where near as good also they come out very dull, its no better than the z1,
how come all these websites are biased when it comes to the nokia,?
i was looking forward to the z2 but am going to stick with the nokia, i love the os, but i really need swannview pro app and windows aint got it.

yeah, most sites do that. i don't know what they hate about Microsoft. But, the switch to Z2? I won't even do that... I hate the laggy Andriod.

that site takes video into the overall score , it isn't for stills only , so the z2 score for example is how good the stills and video are compared to the 1020s video and stills , so even if a camera has crappy stills but great video they give it a good mark up

however you guys are right they also have some crazy ways of marking , I mean they rate the led flash on some phones better then the xenon flash on the 808 and anyone who knows about photography would know there aren't any decent cameras sporting led flash lol and the 808 also has one of the best flashes on a phone if not the best flash ever made ..... so yeah take their scores with a pinch of salt ;-)

^ The 808 has the best flash out there..

And LED flash, at least thus far, is very.. very far from what you can do with a proper xenon flash. Freezing motion at a night club is impossible with an LED for example..

If you'll check out their thoughts on 1020 you will see that the main problem they had with it is probably crappy firmware, and firmware is still not 100% fixed (tho Black had improvement in this regard).
They tested RAW's from 1020 and said the sensor is pretty great (color sensitivity wise), compared it to sensors on point-and-shoots cameras that cost 300-400 bucks.

And maybe optics. Initial pics from Z1s were absolutely horrible. They updated firmware several times after than, but it still was lagging behind not even 1020, but Note 3 and G2. Maybe optical system was a bottleneck.

The 1520, GS5, and the Z2 are very close in terms of camera... its a rather competitive market out there right now.

The 1020 either needs another big camera optimization upgrade ala Nokia Black, or a proper hardware upgrade with a better SoC.

Nokia Cyan should bring further improvements to the camera, but we will have to wait and see. Nokia Black did wonders for the 1020... it was on the horrid side at launch
