Speaker making very soft "hiss" noise when whatsapp is open

Please check on your phones if you have the same problem. My back speaker is making a very soft "hiss" noise whenever I open whatsapp. It is so soft I would not have noticed it had I not still been on whatsapp past twelve last night when everything is quite. It sounds like the speaker is simply turned on everytime I open whatsapp.

It's something to do with it not being optimised for 8.1 from what I gather, but that link above is the current one for Whatsapp related issues.
