I got my RedFly a week ago, and I want to like it but it seems buggy on my HTC Touch with WM6.1 (updated from HTC site).

I've installed the driver from both the installation program and the beta cab but when the driver is installed I lose my sound notifications and ringers on the phone, and the data does not go into sleep model. This causes my battery to drain rather quickly.

I am pretty sure it is the RedFly since this is a new problem and it goes away when I uninstall the driver. I even tried a hard reset, but that didnt work either.

Has anyone else had these issues. I want to keep the RedFly, but it will be going back within the 30 day trial if I cant get this solved.

Thanks

I have been using the Redfly with the verizon Touch with 6.1 and havent had any issues. I guess I would look through the basics:
1. Hard Reset and try from a stock Touch
2. Third party progs may be interfering.

mjc13617, it may be a conflict with something else (we're still working some bugs out with Good for example).

Make sure you have the latest firmware on the REDFLY itself too. Hold down the "fn" key then press the REDFLY logo key to see an About REDFLY popup. Under "FW Version" if it doesn't say "Build 1.3.29" you need to update.

I'll PM you with more info, but make sure to contact support at 1-888-4REDFLY or support@celiocorp.com soon to make sure you can get everything resolved in time to fully evaluate the product during your 30-day trial. Let me know if you need anything.

I think I got it working in a round about way. I tried using the PC setup program (SetupPC) instead of the Cab file and I kept getting errors. Then I remembered I downloaded a setup program way back in May called REDFLYSetup. I found this program on my PC, ran it, and so far so good. My data connection seems to go into idle state now, and sounds appear to be working. I am not sure what happened, but hopefully the old setup program did the trick.

If anyone knows the difference between the April/May '08 PC setup program and the current one, I would be interested in knowing the difference.

Thanks to everyone that gave me pointers on this.

Colin:

I'm experiencing the same problems mjc13617 reported. The network seems constantly "on". Battery drain is enormous. If I uninstall the Redfly program, all returns to normal.

Just received my Redfly today. Connecting was a breeze, but I do have one issue. The today screen doesn't appear properly. By that I mean, I have no top bar (information from other open programs stays wherever it was instead of the top bar) and the lower half of the screen is 'whited out'.

I've got the HTC homescreen turned on instead of the standard WM today screen. Any help would be appreciated.

Regards.

Okay, I figured out that Viigo was taking over the top menu bar and not releasing it to other programs, so that issue is 3rd party software related.

However, on the today screen, I still get a 'whited out' are where my calendar appointments, google search, voicemail, and other today plugins should be showing. Any ideas???

I have some problems with the Today screen, but since the driver I'm using is a beta I figured the problems would be found and fixed. But, since this thread has started I think I will list my them.

1. No matter what theme I use the Today screen do not use the full screen on the Redfly.

2. If I use a theme other than the ones that come with the Touch, the background will be displayed on the Readfly as black, but the text color is displayed correctly. I have one theme that has black text and when I connected the Redfly nothing appeared on the Redfly; black text on a black background does not work!

3. The text on the Start Menu does not show unless the cursor is setting on it.

4. The Task Manager button on the Today screen does not work.

5. The Task Manager button appears on all screens. To exit/close a screen I have to use the OK button on the Redfly.

ex 1: Open Contacts, the Task Manager button appears instead of the Red X button. To close my contacts I have to use the OK button on the Redfly.

ex 2: Open Opera, the Task Manager button appears instead of the Red X button. To close the browsers I have to use the OK button on the Redfly.

One time when I connected my Touch to the Redfly, It took some time to render completely. This is what I saw.

1. My theme showed correctly.

2. The theme was tiled; the complete width of the screen was used. I do not remember if the complete length of the screen was used, I think it was; I'm 80% sure of it.

3. After the Today screen was completely rendered, it appears with stated previous problems.

4. Since what I saw suggested that at that brief time the Redfly was still in portrait mode, so I tried to change the orientation from landscape to portrait but the Redfly would not allow it.

It just happened again. This is what happened.

1. When I connect, I see briefly my picture I used for my theme, then I see the Today screen with the black background on half the screen.

2. When I open the Start Menu I now see my theme and all the text on the Menu. The Start Menu is displaying correctly from the Today screen and on other screens.

As I was typing this, I ran another test by disconnect my phone and reconnecting it to the Redfly, 5 times. This is what happened.

1. I see my theme and my first Today screen plugin, PocketWeather, and a blurry shot of the picture I use in my theme; nothing is tiled. Then I see the Today screen with the black background on half the screen.

2. The Start Menu has my theme and is displayed correctly from the Today screen and on other screens.

I was having most of the problems described here with my Sprint Touch with WinMo 6.1 (official HTC release).

I updated the REDFLY firmware with the latest version, updated the drivers on the phone with the Sprint Touch WinMo 6.1 beta, and changed the theme to Windows 6.1 default (the green one).

Most of the problems have gone away. The only thing I have an issue with now is when I run Mobipocket ebook reader (which works GREAT BTW) and switch it to full screen mode, when I switch it back it doesn?t release the top icon bar.

All I have to do is unplug the phone (or hit the Bluetooth button) and re-connect it and the icon bar comes back. It?s a small, but a little inconvenient work around until the WinMo 6.1 driver is complete.

I've seen the same issue with Viigo, the RSS reader. If it is running on the phone, even if you haven't viewed it since connecting to the Redfly, then the Viigo header will 'cover' the top menu.

Even when you exit the application, the Redfly doesn't render the top menu. I believe this issue also explains why the task manager and OK button don't function. The Redfly doesn't seem to do anything with the top menu in the Touch 6.1 Beta driver.

I've had to top menu work, and I've had it not work but I haven't been able to determine why. Right now it's not working! :(

How does one know when/if there has been a update to the beta driver? Do I have to download the driver and compare it with the old one?

Being in beta implies that there should be upgrades as testing procedes. Especially since, as this thread demonstrates it's not quite ready for prime time yet.
