So I purchased one of these http://www.amazon.com/PowerGen-4-2A...ag=hawk-future-20&ascsubtag=UUwpUvbUpU2730535 a while back and I decided to start using it. Charging is sloooooow on the NA USB port. When plugging in on the AMP port my Lumia 1520 gives me an error about using recommended cable.

I tried the USB cable that came with my device as well as others and its the same prognosis.

So Im looking to get everyone's input on a replacement low profile car charger. I want low profile so it doesnt stick out like a sore thumb.

I was thinking of getting this: http://www.amazon.com/Scosche-USBC2...ag=hawk-future-20&ascsubtag=UUwpUvbUpU2730535

I was thinking of getting this: Amazon.com: Scosche USBC202M Dual 10 Watt (2.1A) USB Car Charger works with iPhone 5, 5S, 5C, IPads, Tablets, and Kindles: Cell Phones & Accessories

When you search for a car charger online, include your phone model so you will get something that will surely work with your phone.

Yeah, only one that comes up is the Nokia one which is just a cord, no secondary USB port.

Just because it doesnt have the model name doesnt mean it wont work. Ive posted the one Im looking at to see if anyone from the board has first hand account. As well as recommendations.

I have the Scosche charger and it's very good. You should also look into "charge-only" cables, which short-out two pins to let the device pull more power. Regular USB cables (which are form charging and data exchange) don't let the device pull more than 500mw from a USB port.

Thank you for the input, especially about the charge only. I tried a bunch of different cables but all with the same results, so more than likely its the cable thats causing the issue. Either way, I wanted a low profile charger. Thanks again.

UPDATE:

Not much luck finding a charge only cable so I did some binging and found this: http://swimminginthought.com/fixing-usb-cable-making-fast-charge-cable looks easy enough to do. Not pretty but may do the job. Its either that or just get a Anker battery.

Update 2:
So I used this guide, because it has pics http://blog.seani.am/2011/08/charge-only-microusb-cable/
Pretty easy, works fine. Verified that data wasnt working and charges much quicker now. I may not need that new charger just yet. I really wish that more charge only USB cables were readiliy available. Side note, using blow dryer for heatshrink wrap works but takes a while.

These are expensive, but work well, clearly look different so you know not to get confused when data isn't working, and don't have electrical tape wrapped around the do-it-yourself surgery site.

Only thing is there seems to be a high failure rate from some of the reviews.. To be honest, modding a cable isnt that bad and the heatshrink tube made it look decent. Ill post a pic later one.
