Well after a few months back (last year in fact) when I bought the Surface 2, I also bought Microsoft's Surface Ethernet Adaptor.

Surprise surprise, the Surface Ethernet Adaptor and the Surface 2 aren't compatible, and I felt cheated as Microsoft didn't tell the details until after 1 week of my purchase. But there's a workaround, thanks to a smart man with his blog.

So just go to this link and exactly follow his instructions: Ethernet on Surface RT with Windows RT 8.1 (Updated) | DigitalManBlog

It works flawlessly, and if you're wondering what USB Ethernet adaptor to get, you can use the one he recommends or use Microsoft's (like the one I'm using now, it works!)

Just to answer anyone who's wondering if the Surface 2 could use cable in case wifi isn't available - it can!

Just a warning for those who do use it that MS do not recommend using this Ethernet adapter for the Surface 2 for some reason that they haven't given properly due to the driver (that what I heard).

I'm still deciding to buy one since it on sale in PC world near by for ?12.

I've been using mine for about 6 months already, and nothing is wrong with my Surface 2 at all, instead it has helped me tremendously. I would believe what Microsoft said if they actually say the problem with the driver or the risks that it involves, but they haven't said anything much and instead just quietly not tell anything.

Yeah I think it was about driver and not being compatible, well since your has been fine for 6 months I'm going to purchase one for my Surface 2 while it on offer.

Thanks. I got a generic one from ebay that has 3 usb ports built in I use on my droid pc stick. Ill give it a try as a wired cat 6 connection seems faster on my internet service vs wifi.
