I have a Surface Pro 4 that I have had for over a year. With in the last several months the same thing will happen - the cover/keyboard will stop responding. If I detach it from the surface and reconnect it and it will start responding again. I can not find a common thing I do to make it stop resonding - it seams random.

I have done the following and nothing helps:
1. Made sure the operating system is updated.
2. Cleaned attachment points with alcohol as I read about
3. Changed settings to where it is never supposed to move to tablet mode (I almost never use it as a tablet alone)
4. un-installed drivers and re-install them
5. bought new cover/keyboard

I have done multiple searches and done everything I could see to try. I love my surface but this glitch makes it really hard to use in the manner I would like.

Any thoughts or things I can try?

Do you have a Microsoft store nearby? Perhaps you can take the device there?
They helped me out on a different issue on my SP3 even though the unit was out of warranty.
Good luck.

Mine does this too. The consistent timing for it to happen (for me) is when coming out of sleep mode, but it doesn't happen often enough to bother me too much. I just had my SP4 replaced under warranty after almost 2 years for an unrelated issue, and the new one does the same thing. When the SP4 came out I do remember seeing threads about this happening.
