So, long story short I bought the original surface pro when it was on sale a few months back. Love this thing. Love the pen too.

Fast forward to now... my girlfriend accidentally spilled some cider on pen. Now the buttons don't really click and its pretty clear that some cider got inside and made all the moving parts a little sticky... thus, they don't really move to smoothly making the pen, to put it mildly... not enjoyable to use.

Ah well, things happen. Just get a new one right? Ya, that's what I figured I'd do.

After much searching I've come to the conclusion that the pen us no longer sold at any major store... even the Microsoft store lists them as out of stock.

I understand that they were selling the original surface on sale to clear out inventory but you'd think they would at least continue to support the product and sell the accessories that go with it!

Ended up having to buy a refurb off the US Amazon site and ship it to Canada where I live. So what should have been a 30 dollar purchase turned into 70.....

Love this tablet, and the pen was a big reason I purchased this thing ....hate to say it but I'm just really disappointed in Microsoft right now.

No offence but it is still available a number of places. In fact, it took 30 seconds to confirm it is still in stock at Best Buy and is available new from a bunch of Amazon vendors. As for whether it is available in Canada is another story but it is certainly not out of stock everywhere. It is a retired product line so you may have to look around but that is what happens as stocks run down. Reality though is you can buy also any wacom compatible stylus and it will work just fine.

As I said, its not available in Canada.
Retired product or not, they were selling it up until a few months ago and now they aren't selling the accessories for it anymore. Accessories that were a big selling point of the product in the first place.

No, its not hard to find them if you look online...yes, major retailers are selling them...in the states...which does me no good.

I can accept the major retailers not selling them everywhere anymore but you can't honestly defend Microsoft for not at least keeping their own stores stocked where they sold the product.

Have you tried rinsing it? Soak it in water for a bit and try to wash the cider out? If you are going to chuck it anyway you have nothing to lose...

I guess it's worth a try. Wouldn't soaking it only cause further damage though? I mean....I can't imagine any additional liquid would be good for the internals...

Thanks for taking the time but I came across that myself also.

Really had my heart set on the actual surface pen. I dig the eraser on the end.

Truth be told, since I started this thread I found a used one on Kijiji for 20 bucks.... don't know why I never bothered to check kijiji before...but alas, my overpriced replacement from amazon has already shipped.

I guess kijiji slipped my mind because I was still so fixated on my confusion over Microsoft not carrying their own product....i hate to be hating....I just can't understand it. Seems like such an odd choice on their part.

Support your customers...im not asking them to stock up on accessories for products that are several years old... just products they've sold as recent as a few months ago haha.

Ok I'm done. Vent complete haha.
