Why can't we use the touch pad swipe gestures to navigate back and forth in web browsers and file explorer?

Why can't we use the touch pad swipe gestures to navigate back and forth in web browsers and file explorer?

That function was only in the Metro version of Internet Explorer. Edge, nor any other web browser does not have that function, and the Metro version of IE is not available in Windows 10. I know, it was quite a handy feature to have when you're in tablet mode.
