Switch to WP8, non WP buyback promotion...

Just a idea.
Many people buy or get phones around the end of year holidays. But many will be unhappy with their new phone by now. Would it not make sense for MS to organize a phone switch promotion and advertising campaign where in cooperation with the carriers they exchange your ie. S3 or iPhone 5 for a WP8 device, where the consumer only needs to pay the difference between the second hand value of his phone and a new WP8 of his choice minus a promotional discount. The phones taken back would become refurbished units for the carriers, devices that are fine, but that did not meet the customers expectations.
Such a promotion could be very effective around this time of the year to get market share and keep production high.
What do you think?

Won't happen...Microsoft is too cheap (and quite frankly, too arrogant and dumb) to entertain anything that would get windows phone any boost in market share....

Wasn't this essentially what Microsoft was doing for the "smoked by windows phone" promotion? You go in, get some cash if you win, if not you get a free windows phone?

This was only at a few select locations, and wasn't advertised or anything like that except for YouTube. It should be somewhere like phone stores, or at Best Buy's or something. I think that was more of a gimmick type of thing, and it was with Windows Phone 7; they haven't done anything similar for Windows Phone 8.This should be a program to where, if you walk into a phone store, there is a promotion you can't miss to where you try this phone for X amount of days, and get to keep it if you like it, and switch back to your old phone if you don't like it.

I dunno bout this, Microsoft has dumped billions in R & D just to make Windows relevant in the mobile space and continue to dump millions to just get a slight piece of marketshare . . Have you seen the massive ad campaigns thats been running ever since they released Windows 8 ?

Yea...like maybe 10 times since the release of the platform...nowhere near the scale it needs to be. And commercials and advertisements aren't enough. They need to do something that gets people to actually use the phone, and during the time they're exposed to it, they need to be given a compelling reason to dump their current ecosystem (that they've invested money in) and try something completely new and unknown...

I like your idea... Try before you switch! Especially in markets where people renew their phones with a contract the ability to try and switch for a lower fee than buying a phone should be very appealing. (US, Germany etc.)
