re: Switching platforms|Thinking of leaving...comment here!
My dear,
Thank for sharing your knowledge. However, I don't think regional carrier is a good reason to exempt Microsoft's responsibility from this matter.
Would you mind telling me where the update comes from? Directly from Microsoft server or regional carriers server? My Lumia 1520 was bought directly from an official distributor in Vietnam, and Vietnamese carriers never get involved in sale of Lumia 1520. I still don't understand how the carriers play an important role in rolling out update because they neither sell device nor give tech support and warranty service. :asleep:
Quite many windows phone fan told me you couldn't ask Microsoft to do as exactly as what Apple did because the Cupertino company only makes one phone model. I think Apple must-do job is not less complicated than that of Microsoft because it has to develop software for all models of iPhone (4S,5,5S) and tablets iPad (3,4,Air) and iPod touch 5th Gen while Microsoft only focuses on phone with different varieties. No one can tell exactly which company does a heavier job. Nonetheless, Apple always does a very good job in rolling out update as all of its devices can get upgraded in just one pre-determined date regardless of regions. Still I own an unlocked iPhone 4S - Singapore region which has been being used by my mother in Vietnam, and it received the iOS 8.0 since the release of OS and also got updated to iOS 8.1.3.
Perhaps, my expectation is too high for Microsoft to reach. The Redmond company is still a tech giant, however neither is its mobile division in comparison with Apple, Samsung or LG, etc... A big company never says something like we're done creating software, but when the update will be released is not our responsibility, it depends on the carriers. I remember in the presentation show of windows 10, Microsoft officials told audiences that the difference between Microsoft and Apple as FUTURE vs FASHION, meaning that Microsoft's technological capabilities exceed Apple's. That really makes me laugh.
I think if you fail to give your customers equal treat, this is absolutely your fault. Don't blame it to anyone else but yourself. Obviously, Microsoft does not care about its users much unless the Redmond could have gotten the situation better.
Thus, I chose to quit and I also never grab to any Microsoft brand smartphone. I loathe to enjoy such never-be-worse experiences again. I used to think I wanted to be as loyal to Microsoft as I was to Nokia. I realized I'm totally wrong.
Regards.
