Re: So is anyone seriously considering another platform now....?

What keeps you on windows? Having less applications or bad quality of applications or receiving no updates or the fact that microsoft is stealing your information?

I will switch reluctantly to Apple iphones if Microsoft stops making Windows smart phones. Android smart phones uses "OPEN SOURCE" software which hackers have a lot of DATA to make really nasty Malware, bugs ect. Just recently a powerful new malware was released by someone or a group that hurts Android smart phone users. Apple screens their Apps better to protect it's Iphone user's. I will not turn into a Nutty iphone fan and stand in line for the newest Iphones. In fact it's always best to wait 3 months to buy the newest smart phone so the manufacturing and software bugs can be worked out

I'd be interested to know how you do this for future reference. Thamks.

There's multiple levels you can take this but, admittedly, you give up some pretty nice services if you completely eliminate Google. Lowering what they track while still having access to some nice features is the route I took.

One option would be to create a new Google account that is just used to access the PlayStore. In that account I went to the Accounts & Privacy page and turned off all things related to tracking me. If you only want to use free apps you don't have to give them your credit card. You can also use Amazon's store for apps safely if that makes you feel better than using the Play Store but the selection is smaller. You can use alternative map programs (HERE, Co-Pilot, etc) and browsers (Firefox, Opera, etc) and don't sign into YouTube or use Gmail or anything else and they'll only get limited information about an account that doesn't really have any connection to the real you.

If you want to really shut them out completely you can root your device and install Cyanogenmod and block all data going to their servers. With Cyanogen, you can deny all Google apps, or any app for that matter, from having access to GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, SMS, MMS, email, audio, your call log, your contacts, and virtually anything else on your phone. You can also delete or disable anything on your phone that says Google although you will likely have some unexpected behavior from your phone if you go that route, especially if you disable Google Play Services. Just search for, "use Android without Google" and you'll find plenty of ways to get around them.

Re: Microsoft Cheated Lumia Users

Just get an iPhone - first class apps updates and support. Why even bother to wait for ports over to W10M???

I wonder which one to take and how easy and nice the UI is.

Cause personally I find those of Win 10 Mobile ease in use and nice to look at

Thanks for that, I've been looking to get a used android to try out and this was the sticking point. Feel more comfortable trying one now with this info.

After running with WP10 since the first Insider Release, I have signed a new cell contract and got the....Galaxy S7. Honestly, there are 3 reasons I switched, but hoping that I will switch back down the line.

1. The current Windows Phones feel like a toy. They are light, and just do not feel premium. Especially when compared to the S7. They just feel hallow.
2. Gotta say it, the App Gap. My security system doesn't have a WP10 app, and several other apps that I use regularly both for personal and work just are not there. Plus the ones that are there, are not the best by any means. Look at the Android Outlook app, and then the WP version. Look at the Bing app on Android and see how it just doesn't exist on WP. It still feels like a brand new OS, and it really is. I just can't jump on when there are complete OS's out there.
3. Media streaming. I stream from YouTube and movies that I rent from the phone to the TV. And although WP10 has the screen share, Android just does it so much better. I have had streaming problems from my WP10 where it skips and glitches and just crashes. The biggest parts that I can't stand and were the deal breakers were that the screen had to stay on, and there was no easy way to control the media you are streaming.

It sucks as I REALLY REALLY want to stay on the Windows platform, but these were my deal breakers. Hopefully the Universal Apps catch on as I would jump back if the apps were there. Fingers are crossed for the Surface Phone!

Pulled the trigger on a Xperia Z5 after few months of sitting on the fence. I'll keep my 925 for another SIM I use infrequently.

Going to miss the tiles and personality of the Windows mobile interface I've used daily since 2009.
Here's a good double entendre: "a personality for the incredibly beautiful can be a pointless cargo".

Android has a bit of catch up to do with the Windows UWP. Or maybe they're not far behind. The merging of Android / Chrome os would be a huge competitor to Windows UWP. Some have suggested Android buy Jibe, or at least collaborate (ex Google employees). A Jibe style OS, that's universal with Android / Chrome platform, if it ever comes, would be a major stumbling block to UWP; given Androids dominate footprint on the mobile market. Microsoft must continue to work the 'universal' field, if they wish to become relevant. Supposedly that's the goal, but as of now they're not. Will Google beat them to it??

1. Did you know that most banks have Linux based servers? Did you know that Linux is an Open Source OS?
2. Not always best to wait "3 months" to buy the newest smartphone. Unless the phone you are looking at is running W10M Eternal Beta Edition :comic snare:

Android > W10M
Just you wait. Microsoft will have an Android AOSP fork with WinRT slapped on top.

Theu already had Android 'in the bank'. I believe thwy squashed this, because too many people could actually use it. I believe they want to leave a majority of Windows users out, no mater what. AND I beleive they want to do this with new OEM carriers.

I can believe a lot of things ... nothing I believe is true anymore.

I plan to move to iPnone 6s Plus 64 GB in the near future (maybe 2 months). Have Been a hardcore Nokia fan uptill now. Not that I am in any kind unsatisfied with my Lumia 930, but I am thinking of rather trying iPhone as still, after so many months and years, limited apps are available on WP and much more on iPhone. The look, weight, available accessories, apps and mostly praises have diverted me from my decision to stay with WP. I will not be giving up my L930 but will not wait for any more MS flagships (They already seem too late!!). Never would like to go with Android as it is an Android (So, no Shyam Singhs for me!!!). After keeping iPhone for next few months will decide between iPhone and WP (in case Surface Phones are launched and are within budget).

So, I moved to iPhone 6s Plus 64GB 2 weeks ago and am actually liking it (not loving) and me being a die-hard Nokia/WP/MS fan, ppl don't believe it! Since, I am HoD, IT, in my company's regional office a lot of people come to me for review and guidance. I have been asked, now too many times, about the difference between high end Nokia/MS WP and iPhone or if anyone congratulates me for moving to the world of real mobile, this is what I have to say.

I feel that both the phone are good in their own way. Where a lot of apps are available for iPhone that my company uses, WP helps me relax due to the unavailability of the same apps. My boss cant catch hold of me in the middle of the night!!! iPhone is fast, but how fast do I want WP to be?? Mr. Bolt?? Win an Olympic Medal? Camera, no doubt, I like WP's better. Interface, iPhone's is dull and boring. Whereas I like to keep playing with my 930's Win10 Home Screen. There's lot to learn with only curiosity!! Space, WP has 32 Gig and 130 GB on One Drive and I don't plan to copy multiple copies of myself on the cloud so take up the space. Same with iPhone, 64 Gig and 5GB iCloud is more than enough. Well, the other apps, games etc... iPhones have tones of them; thousands... but 99.999% with IAPs and some WP games are not even available for iPhone like many xBox Games. MS has extended their support for iPhone users by providing MS Office for iPhone (good marketing stategy) but iPhone has nothing to offer for WP users. Biggest difference: iPhone does not have wireless charging... Damn, I miss it the most and can only use my Wireless charger with 930. Though I have ordered Wireless Charging cover but there is noting like an inbuilt feature.

And No, I have not thrown away my 930; even though I have confidence that nothing will happen to it if I throw it (Just cant have the same feeling for iPhone that seems so delicate and brittle with a big HANDLE WITH UTMOST CARE dripping from everywhere of it), I plan to keep both the phones till I have a better option. That all from the bottom of my heart!:straight::straight:

A year ago i convinced my dad to get a lumia 925. Last Saturday he accidentally broke his sim tray slot. I know he wasn't happy with his Lumia and it wasn't going to get Windows 10 Mobile so i told him to get a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge . It came on Tuesday and i can't tell you how much Androids improved, its a joy to use. Man, from then i was thinking i need to switch back. Honestly, Microsoft will have to pull off something epic to get people back on the platform. Luckily for Microsoft I guess as fans we are really patient for them. I just hope they can do something to convince me because im currently looking at my 830 on the table, thinking what Microsoft can do to unlock the potential of W M. Fingers crossed i'll still be on WM in December when my contracts finished.

Yeah i just bought G4 2days ago, and seriously surprised on how good android now and definitely happy about my purchase.
Seriously, im not haters or fanboys, but why stay on W10M? MS needs a gun to save WM.

Make peace with google dude else WP would go down in months, because u've thrown 50% of WP devices+users in the world! AND they WON'T buy another one, bcos ur selling bull**** over and over again. (oh seriously dear even my 1520 feel sucks now)

Microsoft doesn't need to do anything epic. Just deliver what it is supposed to. I love the way the OS is supposed to work, it just had too many glitches. Had to leave the platform after the 950. If the OS had worked the way it was supposed to, I would still be using it instead of my new S7.

You must be on an iPhone otherwise your comment doesn't make much sense except for the apps. Android's availability for updates is much worse than for WP devices and Google is tracking everything you do with Android. After all it's the main reason Google is investing so much into Android because the get a return by using your information.

I honestly don't understand why anyone would want to use a Windows Phone anymore. I don't see a single advantage in using it anymore.

Use what you like. Your reasoning is not my reasoning, and I don't expect anyone to see it my way. I just upgraded from a 920 to a 950, and I'm more than happy with the device. In my last job, I had a Galaxy 5s, and much prefer using a Windows Phone. That's my preference. You see it differently, great.

The biggest snoopster in the known universe is Google. I'm not worried about what MS gets out of knowing what apps I use.

I have come to the conclusion that Microsoft are useless regarding the Windows phone. So much so, that after being a fan of the windows phone and advocating it to some, I have realised I am flogging a dead horse.

I have a Nokia 925, when I got it, I was very impressed with it. I could even live with the fact that the windows phone lacked a lot of apps, and I also realise that my Nokia 925 will not be upgraded to Windows 10. I can accept that too. But when the functionality on my phone starts to degrade, I have to question my choices. I was well peeved when Microsoft killed off Photobeamer without replacing it. They have also recently killed off Mix Radio, which I used everytime I went to the gym. There are no apparent alternatives to Windows 8 users. And, from what I gather, there isn't anything similar in the works for Windows 10. Therefore, since I am going to have to upgrade anyway, I may as well go for a Samsung phone.

Am out of here, what a bunch of useless muppets!!!
