Text messaging in car via Bluetooth

Since I upgraded my 640 to Win10 it no longer reads text messages to me via my car's Bluetooth connection, and obviously I can't give it a spoken reply any longer either. I was wondering if that is expected or if something is wrong/incompatible with my car (2013 Infiniti G37). Maybe Bluetooth isn't fully functional yet? Voice calls work ok though.

Which version of windows 10?......I have two 640s that work fine on .107, .164, and .218....have you tried a reset?

I'm running .218 right now. The phone is paired but nothing happens when I get an incoming text. Maybe I need to re-pair it with the car. My car is a little goofy with Bluetooth stuff. I haven't tried a reset, I'll try that too, thanks.

I did have variable performance on W10M with my L1320 (when I had it) with reading text messages in the car. Sometimes it would work OK (albeit slow to respond to my voice command to "read it"), sometimes not. With my 950XL, no problems.

My 920 with W10M was a mess when it came to bluetooth and had all kinds of problems. My 650 with .218 of W10M works perfectly. So I suspect it's OS/HW conflicts.

The only difference between a 920 and a 650 with same o.s. build is 650 has an recently updated firmware

Check your settings in Cortana.

Cortana > Notebook > Settings > Read incoming text messages aloud

This is probably a dumb question, but does reading text messages require Cortana to be enabled? I didn't have Cortana when my phone was running 8.1 and it worked ok.

Didn't have to have Cortana on 8.1 for this to work, now you do.
pretty hard to enable it in 10 if you don't have cortana

It's a fantastic question, actually. The setting is now under Cortana in W10M. It's not in 8.1.

Cortana now is full server-centric. No more vocal synthesys build in phone (in fact voices are totally different)
So if your country doesn't get Cortana yet, no vocal, sorry

I had the same problem. I guess I am a little bit disappointed that we are required to keep Cortana enabled to get the same functionality we had before.

Well that's annoying. I'm not turning on Cortana. I'll just have to text and drive and cause accidents.

I've started having problems again with Cortana over Bluetooth. Still on .218 with my 650. Now Cortana comes on saying I have a text message, asks if I want to read it or ignore it, I reply with "read it" and it keeps listening for 10 seconds and then just quits.

Having the same issue all of a sudden on a 950 running .218.......

Ah, so it's not just me with the new gen phone problems. This is a joke. Cortana worked perfectly in 8.1. Why can't they get it right? And how long does it take to fix??

EDIT: Doing a google search and I found articles and posts all over the web from Jan 2016 and even as far back as July 2015! All with Bluetooth and Cortana problems. Come on Microsoft, I thought you were better than this. I've used software that has a single guy writing it and he's able to troubleshoot and fix problems within a couple days!
