Pretty much everyone agrees that having all the screen space for Large Tiles was a good move for WP8.

But Microsoft seems to want to appease those with the arrow fetish. In many videos, the arrow is clearly seen at the bottom of all the tiles. Yuck!. I think that throws off the aesthetics of the home screen I mean you perfectly set up your four corner Windows laid out in poetic fashion, then BAM a right angle deprived dummy arrow!

So here is one person hoping that there is an OS option to hide this arrow. If not, I am soliciting the community to cook a ROM with this arrow-of-shame vanquished! Anyone else think this is an unnecessary eyesore?

IMO I really never notice the arrow and it has never bothered me so I really don't care what they do with the arrow.

Yeah, I really don't care either way. It doesn't bother me now, and I doubt it will bother me in the future either... and I'm saying this as someone who obsesses over a lot of stupid things.

It should be an option. Kind of like what items you had on your Today screen with WM. I prefer the screen real estate but like most posters are noting, it's not that big a deal.

I never really used it but it didn't bother me that it was there. I didn't pay it any attention and if it's there again, I won't care either way.

Doesn't matter to me I guess since I never really used it, but there are always two sides to this as there always has been since the release. There were people who didn't want it there and now there are people who want it back. I added that as an option to the poll by the way.

Hmm. Not quite what I was expecting. Many may think it serves a purpose, but if someone can't figure out to swipe, then I don't think a smartphone is for them:dry Even so, this thing has to be an albatross after the first swipe anyway right??

And there is way too much apathy going on here:D Kind of reminds me of undecideds, pick a side dam**it:D You know Redmond watches these boards!

That was totally not the case when the new start screen was revealed... I remember seeing a TON of whining and arguments both against and for... it was mostly negative IIRC and I remember thinking, "Uh, I thought everyone hated the wasted gutter space and arrow. I suppose everyone got used to it?" :/

Uh, correct me if I'm wrong, but your entire premise is in correct, from what I've seen. The arrow only appears at the bottom of each tile when you tap and hold. That lets you move tiles, and also (more importantly) resize them by using the arrow buttons on the side of each tile.

How is it obvious in the iOS app drawer that you have to swipe to the left to get to the next page of icons? It isn't.

Arrow is not dumb. You are hurting its feelings. It felt like such a big part of the WP7 home screen and wanted to continue on with WP8. It does not see why it was let go in favor of real estate that actually left less room vertically for tile space. Arrow would have happily accepted a smaller amount of space.

Arrow would also like to remind everyone that he was not just a swipe indicator, you could also tap him to make the screen slide. Just like that smug 3 dot guy at the bottom. Tapping him opens a menu. However he can't work by swipe and he does not even do a little dance when you tap him.

I am not talking about the resize arrow on a tile when the tile is held.

Loved the gutter arrow. I swear to you right now that that arrow was 50% of the reason I sold my mytouch 4g and dropped $500 on an off contract hd7 on TMobile. I thought it gave the home screen a fun, funky look instead of everything being a centered grid. It was like the exclamation point on Microsoft's different design statement. I for one welcome its return

I think you are the only one to have seen its return. Please show us some screen shot or something to let the rest of us in on it.
