Hi guys! I am really confuse now which one will I buy a Lumia 820 or 720. Cause this is gonna be my first smartphone after 8 years. And I am not that type of guy that always want a new phone every time a new one comes out. I want a phone (either lumia 820 or 720) that could be future-proof (I mean capable for the next 5 years or so not any phone that could only last for 2 years.) hope you could help me with this.

Thanks in Advance ! :-)

No smartphone is "future proof", esp. not for 5 years. If for not other reason than a phone won't get security updates for that long. For someone who wants phones to last as long as possible, go as highend as you can afford.

why not 920 or 928?

at least with 1gig ram and better camera, it is more future proof than 720...in my country, 920 is very affordable, less than $500 no contract, where 720 is about $329

Depending on what you like. I have not seen and played with a 720 yet. But I think 820 is cheaper now, in my country you add another $130+ (820 is $461 vs $329 for 720) to get better processor and memory.
To downside of 820 is the battery is weak compared to 720 which has a bigger battery. Both have 8GB of storage and I soon found out it is not enough. Fortunately they both have a slot for memory card.
I like 820 because I can change the battery and back cover. But 820 is a bit heavier and not as sleek and sexy as 720.
As for camera I have not used that much but I wish the front facing camera for 820 is better like 720 because I use Skype video sometime.

Thanks That Helps. May I ask you are you that heavy user that almost all the time having you phone in gaming, or browsing and just apps that consumes battery a lot? :-)

I am quite a heavy user. I play occasionally play games and chess (Play by post Chess). Browse a lot too and have a Google Reader app installed. I think the Whatsapp and internet-based apps consume a lot of memory because when I roamed outside of my country, my phone can last almost two days.

Honestly even with 920 i doubt it will be supported after 3 years let alone 5 years....but of course you can use it for more than 5 years, it just wont get all the updates available in the future...

Based on your "future-proof" remark ? which, as already stated, is kind of flawed, but anyway ?, I recommend you the 820 for the superior processing power (1,5 GHz vs. 1 GHz) and RAM (1 GB vs. 512 MB).

Just on a pros n cons basis tha 820 wins. 1.5Ghz vs 1Ghz, 1G Ram vs 512, LTE vs 3G (wcdma, etc). You can't future proof a phone but tha 820 will last u longer, has better specs (unless they bump tha 720 to LTE/4G) n is a $#%tload more powerful!!!

Thanks guys for all you replies with that "future proof" that i am saying i mean by that is that whether new apps will come it will still be supported :-)

I would agreed, and I personally like my 720 more then my 820. To me the spec thing is way over blown with WP.

Well Thanks a lot guys.

This thread has surely helped me in buying my next WPhone. I was previously on HTC 8X but due to the lack of Nokia apps sold it off and was on a lookout to buy a new Nokia.

Just bought 820 Lumia as the comparison on the Specs sheet cannot be denied. I do agree that 720 has a better camera and battery but for that I have Note 2 to help me. Lumia for me was my second phone and hence I did not care about the camera but just to ensure that the phone is future safe bought the 820 instead of the 720. Though I must agree that I do love the 720's looks a lot. Only hope Nokia will increase the ram to 1gig sometime later on the 720 and make the deal really sweet.

Your best decision here was switching to Nokia; top quality hardware, great exclusive apps and constant support to the platform makes them *the* way for a full WP experience.

And nice choice with the 820. Glad this thread helped you.

Yup great choice with tha 820! I was torn between 720-820 but in tha end bigger processor n 4G (LTE) was too hard to ignore

If you really want a future-proof phone, make sure to get one with expandable memory and a replaceable battery, so OP, your choice is indeed correct.

If the battery lasts longer on the 720 in "real world" situations then I would go for the 720. The 820 is a nice phone but the battery, if you start using Wifi, does drain very quickly in my experience.
