The insert bookmark function in Word online is problematic

I am trying to insert hyperlinks to bookmarks I created in the same Word document in OneDrive. These hyperlinks seem to go dead after a while for no apparent reason. They will at first work ok in both edit and view mode but often I come back later and they seem to have dropped out of their own accord.

I have found if I upload a document with bookmarks already in it that it all works fine. Its only when I create them with OneDrive that I experience the problem..
