in all serious, i do use a 2005 dell inspiron that has a cracked hinge ( you can barely see it near my wifes pitiful face) the keyboard has been replaced twice, i have had to reformatt it 3 times just so it will keep running, the battery no longer holds a charge ane needs to be plugged in to use it, and my cd drive no longer works... in short this thing is a royal pain in the butt! but it is al we have for now, so we continue to use it. my wife and i would absolutely love a new surface to replace this piece of junk with! it would make paying bills and managing taxes ten times easier!!! so please wpcentral, hook us up!

To be honest , My Xoom is in a perfect condition ! But I would love to win a Windows 8 RT tablet ! It would make an awesome gift for my young brother who's going to Med. School next year & frankly his dying BlackBerry PlayBook (the broken USB port the least of his problems) won't help him at all !

My MaxTab (a Serbian-Chinese collaboration) tablet runs android 2.3 and I cannot use it for anything. Its battery lasts for about 20 minutes. I got it as 3G and when I put my sim card into it (as explained in the manual), the tablet swallowed it. I still haven't got it out.
When I read an e-book, I need to keep it connected to the charger.
And I can't buy a new one, since I am saving up for a Lumia.

I got my MaxTab as a gift from my dad, and then a few months later he got himself an iPad.
I want to shove my new Windows 8 RT tablet down his throat.

Why do I NEED a new Surface or ASUS VivoTab?
Because :
- I don't like very much my paper-like touchscreen (though its theoretical infinite multitouch capability) for studying on PDFs.
- It doesn't support jpgs, videos and so on..
- I cannot share anything "on the go"

Hi,

This is my Fujistu Siemens L1300 laptop, the latest etch (circa 2005) I tried to update it from XP to Win8 but it crashed halfway through the process and as the disc drive is bust, I could not re-instal XP from recovery discs. Its too old to boot from USB, the battery is gone so it only works when pluged into the mains, but I managed to get it to load Ubuntu so its usable but I am in need of a Windows 8 RT tablet. I have been drooling over windows tablets ever since seeing the Asus EP121 running windows 7 but the battery life and OS werent ready for tablet at that time. I am glad to see Windows 8 tablets coming to market and finally people will see that ipads or nothing but toys. Hope I win the Windows 8 RT tablet so I can join the win8 revolution. Why do I want a to win a new Surface or ASUS Vivo Tab? Why?! Well, let's take it back 2008. I just started high school when I met this fellow here. We were the best of friends. Toshiba helped me get things done from homework to writing yet another short story. I live to write it is my goal to not only write for tv shows and movies, but to be a published author. Toshiba sadly died on January 28th, 2011, and I haven't had my own personal computing device since (currently on my sister's worn out HP). It was hard on me. He died with a deflated afro and unnecessary highlights. He was even missing some keys. *sniff, sniff* RIP Toshiba.

After 2 years and a few months of using my sisters HP laptop, which is currently on life support, I'm ready to move onto a new computing device so I can once again do what I used to do the way I want to do it. If I were to win a new Surface or ASUS Vivo Tab, there's so much more I'd be able to do to move closer to achieving my dream. Thank you guys for your consideration, and always keep Toshiba in your prayers. He was a good guy.

Ok... Let's be honest here. Although I've always admired tablets and have longed to own one, I've never had enough dough to go for and purchase a proper device. And perhaps this competition here could be the chance for me to finally land one!! So, shall we?

Now given that I don't own a tablet, I couldn't very well have taken a photo with myself and a tablet, now could I? Thus given that in my dreams I've been running around with a Surface tablet (now, don't judge!), what better way to show you in a snap what my reaction may be like if I were to somehow win the Surface RT! (or even the superb Asus Vivo Tab RT)

So... The snapshot that you see here can be considered a representation of how excited I may feel if I get my hands on the Microsoft Surface RT or the Asus Vivo Tab RT. I decided to keep the original image along with the slightly edited one for you guys combined into one single image for your consideration. Nope, that's not me actually holding the box to a sexy sleek lookin' Surface RT but the non-tablet yet tablet-sized wi-fi modem by Wi-Tribe.



Of course the actual level of excitement that I would feel if I did actually win would be so much more than what's captured in this photo!

That's me. All sad and nothing to do but repair that piece of junk. Damaged to an extent that not one is ready to bring it to function. So, I did most of the repair myself and as of now that is my tablet. No seriously!
I made changes, inverted the screen, and unfortunately didn't find a good enough brace to hold the screen in place. It looks like a tablet only if you squint really hard and you need to switch off that part of your brain that reminds you what a tablet is. It has to be powered via a cable and separate mouse and keyboard has to be connected; the stock ones don't work. Small movements could turn it off and I have to borrow computers of other people to give my presentations at college or to set up my USB drives to troubleshoot it.
Sometimes I pretend it is a functioning tablet and end up creeping out everyone around me. It would certainly be awesome if I actually owned one.
PLEASE let me have a Windows RT tablet; no one NEEDS it more than me...

I need a Surface and/or an Asus tab as I am fresh out of luck using the laptop above. I would love either, and I need one so bad, like would sell a body part kinda bad. The former electrical item you see above and I are no longer on speaking terms. We stopped talking six years ago and I have been without a decent sized portable glowing thing since.

The Compaq was from a company that I used to work for, I used it faithfully until it died on me and took my music collection and photos with it. No worries my boss said, you can keep it, we will get you another. The duly got me a replacement but I kept the other as our IT guy kept telling me he may be able to get the data off the HDD. A few months passed and the company went under, I got made redundant and bad times kicked in. They had let me keep the 2nd laptop too as part of my redundancy (was actually not worth much anyway, just a portable screen really). A month or so past me by and my previous manager asked if I would swap the laptop for one he had as mine had WiFi. No worries I said. Huge mistake. He swapped my low powered working laptop for an absolute wreck of a machine (256MB RAM). The thing took many minutes to boot up and had to be tricked in to life. The BIOS battery was dead. I did what I could and tried everythingto try and get along with it,but eventually it became so temperamental that I had to wipe it and ship it off to a car boot sale.

So I was left with just my old Compaq, not working still, with a stack of my old ripped music files stuck on the hard drive.

Now I don't want to part with the Compaq due to the HDD contents, however I am worried that it too may find its way to the car boot and be bought by some bargain hunter. My worry is too that it could be brought back to life and used in some 401 scam/botnet virus/cyber warfare attack/someone looking for Joshua, which could potentially harm us all. Now I have fended off the many requests to "just get rid of that broken old laptop" from my GF for six years. I have kept it out of the reach of the malevolent types for this long, but I am growing older and weaker and the force is strong in my GF.

So I ask, for the sake of all the inhabitants of the green and blue ball we call Earth, throw me a bone, send me a shiny new Surface or Asus. Then I can advise her that the broken old Compaq helped me get a shiny new toy. She may then back off for a while. And you may stop the Compaq being flogged and then refurbished and becoming used for some internet scam by some rogue.

Incidentally, the old yellow T-shirt in the photo is a little long in the tooth too. So please accept this in to any competition you run for new T-shirts.

Hi everyone!
Despite I got very exited when the Surface was announced back in June last year, I couldn't find much use for a tablet at that time. But last September I finally came into college to study Computer Science and now I feel a tablet would be really useful.



This netbook in the picture is a 4 years old version of Intel's Classmate PC (netbook designed for kids). My parents had to buy it when my sister went to first grade. I can't use it on college not because it looks like a toy but because the battery only lasts for 2-5 minutes, it takes about 3 minutes to boot and at least 2 minutes to start any program from Office . My sister might need it in school and now I'm living about 300Km away from my family.
In my college, teachers deliver every PowerPoint, PDFs and Documents we need for classes online and either we have a laptop or a tablet to view those files or we have to print everything on paper and carry it around all day. Sometimes, teachers only remember to allow the download when already on class, making it impossible for me to print and view those files (we are not allowed to view them on phones). But the worst is when we have to read large heavy books like "C: How to Program" (which is about 950 pages).
My father owns a reasonable laptop but I would feel terrible taking it with me and leaving him without a computer, specially when my parents work hard and insist to afford my studies.
At first, I was only considering Windows 8 (because of the legacy apps) but now I realize a Tegra 3 powered Windows RT device would probably work better for me since it brings Office pre-loaded, is lighter to carry around and the battery easily lasts for a full day. NVIDIA's Graphics never let me down so I'm curious about their processors. All the heavy content of my backpack could be replaced with a single device. Supporting USB and HD Video out ports would help a lot with presentations and the keyboard and handwrite recognition would help to take faster and more readable notes. It would also improve the conversations with my parents on Skype since my Lumia 800 lacks of a front facing camera.
I have a Microsoft DreamSpark Developer account and I have some ideas for apps and games I would like to create soon and a touchscreen Windows RT device would be a great help for debugging and test them.
Winning this contest is the only way I can get one of these tablets and while not a matter of life or death it would definitely make my life much easier and help to save some trees.

Here's my janky old Samsung Galaxy Player I've had for a couple years now. I tried to trick my pet dove into thinking it's running Windows 8 but needless to say she's not fooled and wants absolutely nothing to do with it! She's actually pretty upset I put it near her and is giving me the silent treatment. Please help me get back on her good side!

On another note, I have a half dozen Windows Phone apps on the market but none of them are on Windows 8 yet. I'd like to bring these apps to Windows 8 (with a healthy dose of SkyDrive synchronization between the W8/WP versions) but as you might imagine neither my bird nor I have had much luck testing them on an Android tablet! It would be really cool if we had something we could actually test them on

I've had it for 4 years however it is much older than that and it has 8 missing keys. The specs are crap. 512 MB RAM. Integrated graphics with 64 mb dedicated RAM. It only has a 60gb hard drive.
Please please please help me. I would love a Windows tablet. It would be 100x better than this thing.
