My wife has a Google Nexus 4. Guess what, there isn't a native call recorder on that either. I'm not sure what difference it makes whether or not it matters an app is from MS or not. There are SEVERAL timer + stopwatch apps. There are also some folder lock apps and gallery lock apps. On the Google Nexus 4, there isn't a native gallery lock either.

Maybe there are "missing" features on WP8, but there is an app store you can use to find apps for these functions. I really don't understand these types of threads. Other than the call recorder, there are apps for the other mentioned "features." What's the big deal?

Also is missing the choice of respond with a speech in text messages,i always use it while driving was a coolest feature ,a great option to keep the hands in the steering wheel.

Cortana reminds me of text as I get it. She ask if I want to ignore or reply. If I state reply she puts it in for me as I speak and I never have to slide open lock screen or anything else. Today I had a text message from family member and I was cooking and phone was on table while I was cutting up seasonings. I talked loud and she replied for me as I spoke. Was able to keep conversation going and never stopped what I was doing. Can't see why it can't work in car.

Never had the need of (or heard of anyone else needing) a call recorder. Last time I checked, doing so has potential legal issues.

If you are connected through Bluetooth / headphone there is an option to set it to ask if you want to respond via voice.

Yes, there are legal issues. in Germany its not allowed, just if you ask beforehand.

Gallery lock is a password protected gallery, i guess.

But if you got porn or something else on your phone you want to hide from your wife, just stop doing it on your phone...

Other than that...when my phone is locked, my gallery is locked. So all good.
