As this year draws to a close, gamers are turning their attention to 2017, which is looking to be every bit as jam-packed with quality games as 2016.
I'd say 2016 was a year of shooters, with games like Titanfall 2, The Division, Battlefield 1, Gears of War 4, and many, many more hitting the market in a fairly condensed space of time. Still, there was plenty of room for diversity, with games like The Flame in the Flood, INSIDE, Firewatch, and Stardew Valley all enjoying some buzz.
There were big disappointments like No Man's Sky, unexpected triumphs like DOOM, and games that seemed to appear out of nowhere, like the Astroneer. And more and more games seem to be hitting the service route, supported with free updates in exchange for cosmetic DLC or gameplay-accelerating micro-payments.
It'll be interesting to see how 2017 plays out for Xbox, which has a beastly new console in the horizon in the form of Project Scorpio. What is certain, however, is that we're going to get some awesome games to play on it. Here are 20 of the best we're most looking forward to.
