Thinking of returning to WP with a 1020

Thinking of returning to WP, my last WP was a Nokia 920 then briefly a 925.

I returned to an Iphone 4s as i missed some of the apps, like with friends type zynga stuff, but my android nexus tablet fullfills this area now, so thought id try the WP especially now 8.1 is out.

Would the 1020 be similar on performance to the 925?
Does the 1020 run 8.1 OK?
Ive read that the 1020 camera performance is pretty slow, has this been fixed with updates?
How much development for apps on the WP platform is there now compared to half a year ago?

The L1020 is still slow with the camera on WP8.1 and that's probably not going to change much unfortunately. The Denim update when it comes out may change things a bit (we're told of faster camera performance) but we don't know if it effects older devices as much as newer ones.

The L1020 is basically the same internally as the L925 which is the same internally as the L920. I have the L920 and it runs WP8.1 just fine.

As for apps, it sort of comes down to what you're after but I'd say going to The Smartphone Reinvented Around You | Windows Phone (United States) is your best chance to determine if the apps you want are there. The Store better but it's far from perfect.

If there's something specific you're after in the way of apps I may be able to help as some things are not easily found.

The 1020 camera performance is slow but the end result, unbeatable on any other smartphone. It's a decent trade-off.

8.1 runs fine on the 1020 which is good as it's not a particularly high specced device, it's more than capable for the OS though.

The app situation isn't great and is the main reason that I am likely to leave WP in February. So many apps are missing and although things have improved slightly over the past year, progress is way too slow. Many developers don't want to touch the platform, others are waiting for other developers to take the first step. It's kinda sad really as I love the OS, I just want more of my interests covered with official apps/games etc.

If it's not a huge issue for you as you have another device to use for apps, then getting back into WP may be the right move for you.

Good luck!

As Nick says the Camera performance far outweighs the limitations of the platform/apps. I've just returned to WP after a short break with an LG G3 and don't envisage leaving WP again.

While the 1020 may be slow in comparison to some camera centric phones the quality of pictures you are able to produce with it are second to none. The app gap is still big but if you have an android tab for things you need then the 1020 should suffice if your looking to concentrate on having a camera with you wherever you go.

I managed to buy two new 64gb versions from o2 in the uk so this should keep me going until the next iteration of this device comes out but it will be worth the wait. If your used to the 925 then the 1020 will still perform just as fast and you have the benefits of the camera.

I still use the L1020 as my daily use phone. While I still like my phone but if I was you, I look else where. There are better phones out there by now. The picture quality from the camera on L1020 is nice. But there are many aspects to consider as well.
