i hear what you are saying, but really it isn't complicated. There are 4 generations: Xbox, 360, One, Series. Everything else is a variant. All the 360 variants don't hold a candle to all the ones in the PS3 ones and they had no friendly names but stuff like CECHxxxx. Did that model support PS2? In HW or SW, Sixaxis or Dualshock, etc. You could buy two PS3s just labeled PS3 and get two entirely different systems without knowing it.
To use the argument 5 is easier to remember than Series. Is it? Why? If you don't know a number is a number, which number is it. To parallel, iPhones are just incremental numbers and they look so similar, which one do they want? At least with Samsung, they use a number that matches the year so that is much easier than a random number. So it sounds like you'd want Microsoft to adopt the Xbox 26 (if released in 26) naming scheme like they do with Server product. I don't disagree.
