Looking to switch from Sprint to T-Mobile or even Cingular but not sure which phone to get. I currently have a 700WX annd love it. It would either have to be an upgrade, or of the same level.

Any thoughts on the Wing? Any thoughts on other phones that may be a good choice?

Thanks.

Best,
Kyle

I would suggest you stick with the 700wx. The T-Mobile Wing and the Sprint 6800/Mogul are very similar. However, the Wing's processor and RAM are about half of what's in the Mogul. It would be a step backwards to go from a 700wx to a Wing.

From what I remember, there aren't really any good PPC choices on T-Mobile's side right now. You can get something like the Dash which is supposed to be pretty good, but its runs WIndows Smartphone edition (no touch screen).

If you want the Wing form factor and are determined to go with Cingular or T-Mobile, go with the Cingular 8525. I believe that there are some hacked ROMs for it to push it to WM6 (see the XDA forums) and its also got 3G speed. Tons better than the crappy Wing. They also have the Treo 750 which would be an easy transition from the 700wx and its supposed to get an upgrade to WM6 later this year.

hmm

The Wing looks nice, but no 3G, plus other comments noted above, would make me wait until the next version.

Also, I would have a hard time going from candybar to slider...

Yeah...good points.

I think I read that the 8525 is a pretty good phone. I am going to look into it a bit more. Also, have either of you fooled with an iPhone to compare it to a 700wx?

Thanks.

Kyle

Wing

I think the Wing is cool. Mind you, this is my first ever pocket pc and I still expected a bit better; but sometimes its not about what it CAN do its what it CANT do, once you understand the limitations, you'll enjoy it more. 200mhz processor is pretty sad when comparing to the 8525 on Cingular (400mhz) aside from it slowing up ( if you dont run 10000 apps at once , its not bad) and the internet speed which is T-Mobiles fault, LOL, however if you have access to wifi, its AWESOME:thumbsup:

Agreed on all points ( http://www.wmexperts.com/reviews/smartphones/review_tmobile_wing.html )

It's strange, because usually I don't really get too worked up about the processor, but for some reason on the Wing it seemed to get in my way more often. I think that you basically *need* to install a memory management tool to make it anything close to a power device.

I love my Wing, after I loaded all the Spb software on it, and got a 4gb micro card. The customized UI I get with Spb pocket plus is nice, and I'm trying to get the TouchFLO 3D UI from the HTC Touch to work.

I'll be interested to hear how that works - my understand is you'll want TouchFlo v1 and not v2, which required more resources than the Touch (and presumably the Wing) really have.
