Try This!!!

Just go to your start screen in wp and swipe about halfway to the app list, but keep your finger there... And then swipe left or right on hardware keys while still keeping your finger on screen and see the touch work like the screen even on hardware keys...

Tested on Lumia 525 WP 8.0... Not sure about others... Try this out and report your find...

Here's an extension to this trick. Just try to swipe the start screen up and in midway stop but keep your finger on the screen. And then with other finger swipe up or down between the hardware keys and start screen would go up and down
