Has anyone here ever done their taxes through turbo tax?

I heard the program makes it very easy, is this true?

I highly recommend TurboTax. I've used it for the last 6 years or so. It makes filing very simple, but yet it's thorough. There are different levels to choose from, depending on your situation. I own rental property, so I need something above the basic level.

Thank you very much for the quick response. Mine are basic and I have a 1099 form. That falls into that individual / basic I assume.

Also when I purchase the software, is it forever or does it expire after this year?

I've never purchased the software. I always use the online version. But if you purchase the software it's only good for that year.

I find it really, really hard to pay to have my taxes done. My wife has a small business, and ours is expensive to have done. The year that got me was when my wife did not feel comfortable with me doing them, and we ended up paying an insane amount of money to a preparer to watch them type it into a program to find out that the two months worth of work I had done was spot on.

I have just done them myself and made about 75 calls to the IRS for assistance over the last three years. It is amazing how happy this agents are when someone calls for help as opposed to complain or argue. It is a lot of work, but I am horrid at math, and if I can do it, anyone can. Just need to take your time, start early, read, and double-triple and quadruple check them.

Wonder if I am one of those who needs to get his billion back?

Good for less complex filing and I did like the audit risk feature with each step.

Used TurboTax for three years thinking it was the easiest and less expensive way to go.
I ended up going back to a tax accountant last year because Turbo Tax wasn't co-operating with our particular situation.

I'll say Turbo Tax is good until the user runs into a few weird things that pop-up with business expenses or dividend income.

...tgp is right use the on-line version it's easier and you don't pay up till you actually file.
