Hello WPCentral community, first of all I would like to introduce myself;
My name is Bryan and I'm from Honduras, I've been using windows phone since I fell in love with the Nokia Lumia 900, since then I updated to an unlocked 920 and so far I don't see a reason to upgrade, my brother for other part had a Nokia Lumia 822 from Verizon, and here in my country Verizon doesn't need to be unlocked, works fine overall but he bought a L920 on ebay that was supossed to be unlocked but it isn't... Returning the phone and all that would be more expensive and we don't want to do that so I wonder if anyone here can help me to unlock from at&t this phone... I've been trying and what they ask me is an active number of at&t... So, I don't lose nothing by asking; should anyone be able to help me? or is harder than that ?

You can either call AT&T and ask for the international travel unlock code, or simply click the "Chat Now" button on the right to start a session with the carrier reps, which seems to be the faster method to obtain the digits in question.

After you've told the rep you will be traveling abroad, and need an unlock code for using the phone overseas, you will be asked for the IMEI number, which is on the box your handset came with, or in the Settings app - the "About phone" option.

The reps will generate a 20-digit unlock code for you, then you have to take out your AT&T SIM, and put a card from a different carrier in your Lumia 920. Upon restart, the handset will ask you for an unlock code, key it in, press "enter" and you are golden.

People in the comments of this news post seem to have luck with unlocking the Lumia 920,

Hey! Welcome to the forums! Did you do a bing/google search?

Hello+Welcome to the forum!
Sorry about the difficulty with the brothers L920.

Is there a network in Honduras that's compatible with AT&T by any chance?
An unlock service might be another option...I wouldn't know who to recommend however.

Try cellunlocker or unlockthatphone, I've unlocked a couple of ATT locked phones through them before (Samsung focus flash, iPhone 4, Lumia 900, Lumia 920, etc.) but this was about 6-7 months ago and as per the recent unlocking policy changes (which is bull sh*t as usual) from ATT i wouldn't hold much hope for non ATT customers. Give them a shot, if not don't stress much and sell it off. You can definitely get a better unlocked Lumia 920 for a slightly higher price

Thank you all for the replies, I did my homework on bing/google but I couldn't find a proper answer and that's why I ask you guys... I used to be able to unlock from at&t but indeed when they changed their policy now seems impossible for the moment, it's really frustrating but I guess I'll have to wait then for a new method

Welcome to WPCentral. I don't deal with ATT, so I don't know my way around there, but I do hope you find what you need to get the phone unlocked. The reason Verizon phones don't need to be unlocked is because one of the conditions that they agreed to in leasing their LTE band is that the phones using that band cannot be carrier locked. So any Verizon phone you get will be unlocked as long as it has LTE.
