unlock nokia lumia 900 can i update?

I have a nokia Lumia 900, I got it unlocked a long time ago it was at&t but now I can use it with my prepaid plan. It has an update available, but I'm afraid if I update it the phone will lock up, and I forgot the code they gave me. What should I do

Updates will not affect the unlock status.

Ok it says something about if you use a pin it will ask for it? pin lock, like for my screen?
