Unlocked 950 on ATT

Is there anything difficult about setting up an unlocked phone on ATT or others? I just pre-ordered the 950XL and realized I have never done that, so I wanted to be prepared. Is there a tutorial or something that shows the steps or is it as simple as just putting the sim from my 830 into the new one and fire it up? Thanks

You still need to call for the very first time activating it. After that you can freely switch your Sim back and forth.

Get a template and cut it down (carefully) or waltz into ATT and ask for a nano SIM.

I read all the time from users that ATT will transfer you to a new SIM free. YMMV.

Maybe it is corporate stores that do this? IDK. What would be the downside of paying a few bucks to have it correct?

Assuming you're talking about buying a no-contract phone from AT&T: As I understand it, per a chat with AT&T pre-sales support, you have to wait for 14 days to request an unlock code. The 14 days is their buyer's remorse window, so I guess they're trying to avoid having unlocked phones coming back via buyer's remorse returns.

If you're buying an unlocked 950 direct from Microsoft like I am, just stick your Nano SIM(s) in and light it up.
