I have been on the insider program using a Lumia Icon on Verizon. My phone at this point is like 3 years old and it has taken a bit of a beating over the years, cracks, wear and tear, and now I am having trouble with hearing people on phone calls. I want to stay with windows phone but it is hard to find an upgrade or alternative in general that will work with Verizon. Should I stick it out a bit further and hope something comes out soon that will actually work on a CDMA or just switch to a phone like the HTC One M8 and load the insider program on that. I am really having a hard time making a decision. Switching from Verizon is unfortunately not an option. Opinions are appreciated. Thank You!

If you are waiting for a Windows phone then you may have a long wait.

The HTC One M8 has been dropped from the Insider programme. The only route to updating from WP8.1 to W10M is via a registry hack.

How about the Lumia 735?

I feel your pain. Verizon is the only viable option for me as well (close to zero GSM coverage here), and I've pretty much given up on windows phone as a result. Every once in a while I fire up my old Icon, but pretty much only use Android now. Thought about a 735, but its such a long ways from being a 'flagship'......in fact I consider it a downgrade from the Icon. Sort of a depressing situation.

Edit to add: I guess if I were you and wanted to stick with windows phone, I'd look for a refurb Icon to replace yours.

Honestly, your best bet is to just get a Lumia Icon refurbished. Probably run you about $100-200 sometimes lower. Runs official windows 10 mobile, and Lumia Denim (after a hard reset from upgrading to windows 10 mobile), I doubt anything from Verizon or Sprint can even compete with it.

While the 735 is not a flagship, it is solid. Never thought I would like the on-screen buttons, but I got used to them quickly and now I love it that I can swipe them out of the way. Still has wireless charging, camera is ok, but not stellar, but 'good enough' for me. Has Win 10 and is stable.

Simply comes down to staying with Windows, or moving on. I don't see anything else "coming soon" from Big Red.

I'm in the same boat. Big Red is my only viable option due to my geography. I'm not sure what my next phone will be. My son is moving on because he is missing out on all of the fun in his high school years due to the lack of apps his friends are using.

I am greatly disappointed in MS for how this has all been handled.

get another icon, ebay still has a few

between a downgrade -735- and a sidegrade -M8- I think the answer is clear as water, stay where you are

Refurbished icon or just hold out. I have a think that we have 6-8 months to see where the ship is headed and make some more informed decisions. If your current phone fails or simply can't do what you need well then you might have to leap. I have an icon and VZ and if it died I'd get a refurbished to keep working with if staying with VZ.
