It would depend on what's going to happen with your product key when you upgrade to Pro. But hopefully Microsoft will give us a choice. I mean I have big hopes for Win 10 S but it might take a few months before it's a fully functional system, it's all down to apps.

hey thanks for posting this faq. it makes sense that a downgrade is not allowed, but its kind of a bummer! i would want a more secure os in my computer when the app quality/quantity increases.

Just to update this thread in case some stumbles across it in the future.

You can indeed go back to 10S after doing the Pro upgrade. I tested this a few days ago and it works flawlessly..

My machine came with 10S but I wanted to get the Pro upgrade license in case I want to use it in the future. I took advantage of the free Pro upgrade and it took about 2 minutes and a reboot.

To roll back to 10S from 10 Pro:

1. Go here --> https://forums.windowscentral.com/e...ry%2Fdownloadablerecoveryimage&token=pvqtJNWf
2. Download 10S and follow the instructions to make a USB recovery stick
3. Boot to USB (press F6 / Volume Up) at boot to access the BIOS OR reboot to USB from inside of Windows settings
4. Restore 10S from the previously created 10S USB restore stick you created

The restore went fairly quick and took about 15 minutes total to be back on 10S. After downgrading I went back into the store to see if the upgrade to 10 Pro was still showing up for me as either free, or better yet listed as install.. The 10 Pro upgrade app in the store was now listed as install which means the license was saved to my account and I can now go back to Pro at any time I choose in the future for free..
