Using a WP as a music player?

I personally like the idea of a smaller device being used as a music player because it makes it easy to have around but I would also like to have something with decent audio output. I'm seeing a lot of old Lumias with 512 mb, and I can't go back to that. Has anyone done this before? If so, what phone did you use?

At this time, I have looked at all of the older Lumias and it looks like for what I'll like, only the 435, 532, and 810 (yeah I know this is old but eh) would work for this. It seems hard to find reviews with something playing from the audio. The 532 is out because I plan not to use it as a phone, and I don't want to pay much for a device with this purpose.

I'm biased to Lumias but in general, I'll like to use a Windows Phone/Mobile for this, because drag and drop is simple.

Would you consider the HTC 8X?
This device has the Beats Audio and music play back is very good.
I personally had the HTC 8S (512 MB device) and the audio was better than any of the Lumia phones I have owned (I currently have the L930).

Saying that how much storage do you require?
The HTC 8S will take an SD card, however the 8X is limited to the internal storage which is only 16GB.

16gb should be enough for my needs. I just don't want a sluggish device because of 512mb ram. I'll like to be able to load music on it, but also stream it when I feel like it. Your suggestion has opened up a LOT of possibilities for me.
